Poetry by Kayla Sweet

The reasons you wake up  every morning,
not your alarm clock,
the other reasons.

The things
that pull at your
heartstrings
and
guide you into places
still unknown.

The feelings
in your stomach
when you just know.

The thoughts
about why we are here
and what matters.

The teardrops
falling
that remind us
of the magical
fragility of each
moment.

All of these
other reasons
we wake up every day.

Not the titles,
the jobs,
or the masks...
the other reasons

Really breathing
and being overcome
with aliveness

Feeling until
something breaks
and there is
light
beneath the darkness.

Seeing the stories
of our lives
from new perspectives

Being reminded
again
of our fascinating,
confusing,
magical,
complexities.

All of these other reasons
We sometimes forget
When we get lost
in time.
